When Petra Kvitova won her first Major title, the whole world knew that a star had been born. And now, when she is about to finish the season as the top ranked female in the world, we know that she is here to stay!
Having secured countless titles in both the majors and the other WTA events, Kvitova could be forgiven for taking some time out of the game, but she is straight back into a new training regime ahead of the Australian Open.
Tennis commentator Simon Reed thinks she has it all. “Petra Kvitova can blow anyone else away with her powerful game when she is at her best, and the Czech has a very special and successful career ahead of her. I would certainly back Kvitova to usurp Caroline Wozniacki at the top of the world rankings, and she could well be very dominant for years to come” said Reed.
“She is very unlikely to ever win the French Open because of her game, but I could see her winning the other three Grand Slams time and time again.”
Born on 8 March, 1990, Petra Kvitova is a professional Czech Tennis player who has carved her own niche in the field in such a young age. Since the beginning of her tenni9s playing career till date she has gained the world ranking of no. 7 by winning five WTA singles, which certainly is a matter of several good performances and a lot of practice and hard work. She was the first 1990 born Grand Slam even winner, to win the 2011 Wimbledon Championship singles title which pushed her forward to achieve the glorious honor in the world of Tennis. She is the daughter of the proud parents called Jiří Kvita and Pavla Kvitová and was born in Bilovec, Czechoslovakia. It was her father who introduced her to the sport and she followed her role model and Czech player Martina Navratilova.
Till the age of 16 years, she was trained in her hometown, after which she was encouraged and inspired to take up Tennis as a profession by an instructor. Apart from her well known fast left-handed serve which allowed her to have 36 aces at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, she is also famous for her astoundingly heavy forehand, backhand and timing. She plays close to the baseline, whenever she wants to make up for her lack of speed and these tactics have shown great colors by contributing towards her victories. The year 2008 saw her gaining some remarkable victories against world renowned and top-class players like Anabel Medina Garrigues, Venus Williams, Akikio Morigami, Samantha Stosur, Agnes Szavay and many more. However, it is not that she had not had her share of defeats as failures build the pillars of her success gradually, because she learnt from them and polished her skills further with every game.
Some of the significant matches that she played in the year were 2008 Open Gaz de France, 2008 Cellular South Cup, 2008 Sony Ericsson Open and 2008 French Open and so on. The next year saw winning her first career title in 2009 Moorilla Hobart International where she had won against Alona Bondarenko, Anastacia Pavlyuchenkova,Virginie Razzano and Iveta Benesova. However, the year could not much witness her victories and glories as she faced a series of losses in some matches.
In 2010 she fought and succeeded in restoring her losses and disappointments by reaching closer to the finals in many deciding games like 2010 Australian Open, 2010 Cellular South Cup, 2010 Wimbledon Championships and many other games. She had her marvelous victories over names like Sorana Cirstea, Zheng Jie, Victoria Azarenka, Kaia Kanepi and etc. However, she took the phase as a learning mode and did lose some final matches as well, which nevertheless could not harm her charm and magic. The year 2011 witnessed her winning of the second career title at the 2011 Brisbane International after defeating Andrea Petkovic, followed by her next victory over Nadia Petrova nd Anastacia Pavlyuchenkova; and this pushed her to gain the world ranking of no. 28.
