The mother of Andy Murray, Mrs. Judy Murray, reckons that her son has taken a good decision by appointing Amelie Mauresmo as his head coach as the Frenchwoman has got the necessary skills to do justice to the post.
Mauresmo’s appointment as Murray’s coach is only on a temporary basis at the moment, but, Judy believes that the former Australian Open and Wimbledon Champion would work impressively during the trial period and would end up getting a permanent job.
Talking to the reporters yesterday, Judy said, “I used to like Amelie a lot when she was an active player and that’s why when Andy told me that he was thinking about hiring her as coach, I 100% backed that.”
“Innovation and grace were two very important parts of Amelie’s game and apart from that, she was a thinking player too. I hope she makes Andy being a little more innovative on the court because that’s the quality that he has been lacking in the recent past. He used to be innovative a while back, but, off late, he has not been doing so.”
“I certainly believe that Amelie would prove to be a good coach. She might become Andy’s permanent coach too. She is good enough for that.”
According to the information available, Murray has hired Mauresmo only for the next month at this point of time, but, if the pair gets going pretty well and the results are positive for Murray in the Wimbledon Championships, he would reward the Frenchwoman with a long term job.
Murray’s world ranking right now is 5, but, that would certainly go up a little bit if he is able to defend his singles crown at Wimbledon.
Murray has never been the world no. 1 in his career so far.

Stanislas Wawrinka crowned as the third seed easily ousted by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain in the first round. Since he beat Nadal to win the Australian Open title he was coming in with lot of positives.
He was defeated in 4 sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 and 6-0. He was seen as a threat by many players in the French Open but it was not easy to adjust to the clay court easily. His performance had lot of loopholes especially unforced errors that raced up to 61 came as a shock and disappointment. Garcia on the other hand proved stronger than him breaking him twice and putting him in a disadvantageous position from which he could not make a comeback. The first set was easily lost by Wawrinka in just 36 minutes. Somehow, in the second set Wawrinka got lucky and with a little pushing managed to equal one set each with Garcia. But even then he had 17 unforced errors in the second set itself.
Garcia had put in lot of effort and his confidence just notched up and he reached quickly seized the third set and kept the momentum going in the fourth set itself. Playing under the fading light he managed to wrap up the game. Wawrinka in his press statement made it clear that he was not in the game at all as he was finding it difficult to find the correct shots. For him it is a big loss to be ousted in the first round of the grand slam but he cannot change whatever has happened rather he is looking deep into his match and practice harder. For him it was not about pressure it was just a different ball game altogether for him. The loss will haunt him for sure.

Petra Kvitova’s journey in the ongoing French Open came to an end yesterday when she lost to the Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova in an epic encounter. She completely fell apart in that match after winning the opening set.
The Czech player was struggling with leg injury and thus, was not playing with her full capacity, but, despite that, she would be disappointed with the fact that she couldn’t get through. She was so close to make it to the round of 16.
Kvitova only has herself to blame for the defeat though. The no. of unnecessary mistakes committed by her during the match was very large and that’s the reason she ended up on the wrong side at the end of the day.
The third set of the match was the most exciting. The pendulum kept swinging from one side to the other throughout that set. Kvitova first got the opportunity to seal it in the 10th game. She was ahead by 5-4 and all she needed was a serve hold, but, she failed and the proceedings got tied to 5-5.
Then, in the 12th game, Kuznetsova got the opportunity to finish off the match. She was leading by 6-5 and she got a couple of break points. But, she wasted both of them and Kvitova held the serve to tie the scores again.
In the very next game, the Czech player got a breakthrough and she again found herself just a serve hold away from the win, but, for the second time consecutively, she lost the chance and the scores became 7-7.
Thereafter, Kuznetsova lifted her performance in the next couple of games and won both those games to pull off the contest. It was one hell of a match.
It was, in total, the 4th match between these two players. All the previous 3 matches had gone Kvitova’s way.
